Information about the Braddon electorate

The electorate of Braddon comprises the beautiful North-West and West Coasts of Tasmania and includes King Island. Covering 20 826 sq km, the major regional centres of Braddon are Devonport and Burnie. Other major towns include Currie, Latrobe, Ulverstone, Penguin, Waratah, Wynyard, Smithton, Stanley, Zeehan, Strahan and Queenstown.
Braddon is renowned for its rich soil, with vegetable (primarily potato) growing a significant industry. Other major industries include forestry, fishing, dairy and beef production and mining.

Manufacturing - large and small - has always been a feature of the region's economy along with its reputation for producing highly skilled trades people. Caterpillar Underground Mining, Southern Prospect, Haywards, Haulmax, Zezt are just some local examples along with vegetable processor Simplot in Devonport and Ulverstone, and major mining enterprises on the West Coast.

The Braddon electorate boasts one of the most exquisite coastlines in Australia, if not the world, and some beautiful harbours at Currie, Stanley and Strahan.
Major tourist attractions in Braddon include Van Diemen Quality Bulbs at Table Cape, Creative Paper and the Makers’ Workshop in Burnie, Anvers Chocolate Factory at Latrobe, the Stanley Nut and its historic town, and the heritage village of Strahan with its close proximity to Macquarie Harbour, the Gordon River and the South West Wilderness.
Major interstate airports are located in both Burnie and Devonport.
The Spirit of Tasmania ferry service from Melbourne also arrives in Devonport daily.
