Sid Sidebottom
MP Federal Member for Braddon
Labor has a very strong record in Braddon over the past three years, unprecedented for a new Government in its first term.
Together we have delivered on a huge number of projects and election promises – with the aim of making life in the North-West and West better for everyone.
We have provided in health, education and infrastructure, jobs and improved services.
A new GP Super Clinic is open in Devonport and another under construction in Burnie, and we have secured the future of the Mersey Community Hospital.
On top of school infrastructure projects in 63 schools worth $99.6 million, the Gillard Labor Government has also provided 1300 computers in 22 schools and a new Trades Training Centre is underway in Devonport, with planning for two centres at Smithton.
A major redevelopment of Formby Road in Devonport is about to start, partly funded by the Federal Government, while Burnie has seen a major redevelopment of its waterfront over the last two years – with more to come.
The National Broadband Network is underway in Smithton, and the roll-out along the Coast is being planned. This program alone could mean a massive boost to regional communities and put them in touch with the latest technology available worldwide.
The Labor Government has also delivered important new services, including the Autism Centre in Burnie which will service the region with important satellite outreach services to help children and families tackling autism.
The new Enterprise Connect Centre has been up and running for almost two years, and has been delivering fantastic results for many of its clients in the area. These range from consolidating and improving existing businesses through to expansion into new areas.
Labor has also responded to the challenge of keeping people in jobs, and providing new jobs in the region.
Along with supporting jobs through the Jobs Fund and Building the Education Revolution projects, the North-West and Northern Tasmania Innovation and Investment Fund is pouring $17.5 million into the region and creating more than 300 jobs.
On top of this the Government has increased payments to pensioners and provided significant funds to build social housing.
The job is not done, more challenges face us, but with Julia Gillard in the lead we are prepared to take Braddon and move Australia forward.
Kind regards
